Venezuela’s engineering association has urged the country to revise the seismic-resistance standards governing buildings following an earthquake. The organization also proposed establishing a National Seismic-Resistance Commission to oversee the issue. According to the association, the applicable standards were last updated in 2019. The initiative puts renewed attention on whether Venezuela’s construction rules adequately address earthquake risk and whether a permanent technical body will be created.
Revised seismic rules could change design, compliance and construction requirements for Venezuelan real estate and infrastructure projects.
